82 Main Rd., Nairne, South Australia
Open Sundays 2 to 4 p.m. Other times by arrangement
Showcasing the history and heritage of one
of the oldest towns in the Adelaide Hills
Nairne was one of the earliest towns established in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, only 3 years after South Australia was proclaimed. Thus it has a large stock of older buildings, all well preserved.
The town's progress was largely due to agricultural products, in particular prize winning wheat and thus was a centre for grain milling.
The museum collection includes:
Many household artefacts
Old photos-some dating from 1860
Books and local journals up to 150 years old
A display of 1860s militia uniforms and equipment.
The museum has a collection of period costume allowing visitors to take their photo in the style of the 1850s
